The biggest bet of the week with TAB on harness racing in New South Wales was a successful one with the Paul Fitzpatrick-trained Match In Heaven winning at Menangle last Friday afternoon. One punter placed a bet of $5,000 on the three-year old at the odds of $1.20 and won $1,000 when he made it two wins in a row this campaign. It was one of a number of large wagers that were successful at Menangle last Friday and Saturday.

The punter who placed $2,500 on Idle Bones at Menangle on Saturday night at the price of $4.80 couldn’t believe their luck when race favourite Daryl Boko galloped. Idle Bones continued to trot boldly out in front and recorded a comfortable victory and in the process returned the punter $12,000 and more importantly a profit of $9,500.

There were some losers during the week as well. The biggest loser was the punter who placed a $4,000 wager on Modern Dancer at Goulburn on Australia Day at $4.10. After leading the mare finished fourth at her first run back from a spell and while she should strip fitter that was little consolation to the punter.

Yayas Hot Spot was heavily supported to win Tuesday’s Goulburn Cup but the sprintlane did not come up early enough as the Shane Tritton trained pacer was forced to wait for the opening while Condagen steamed down the outside to score. One punter placed $2,000 at the odds of $7.00 for a possible return of $14,000.
