WHILE one punter placed a $4,000 bet during the week that was successful, the punter could be excused for having a few heart palpitations after having to wait for the judge to post the winning number. Carousel winner Hez A Dude backed up at Goulburn less than 48 hours after his Group 2 success and was a $1.10 favourite.
The Brad Hewitt trained gelding was under heavy pressure in the concluding stages and held on to narrowly defeat Modern Dancer by a short-half head.

The biggest return for the week was the $3,000 wager on Maudie Mombassa to win Dubbo’s Red Ochre Mares Classic last Friday at the price of $4.00. Trained by Col Edwards, the mare has been in very good form this preparation and proved too good in a strong field which included Menangle winner Bon Accord Gal.

The biggest losing bet of the week was placed at Inverell’s meeting on Sunday afternoon. A punter placed $7,500 on Bright And Sonny in the sixth race at the odds of $3.00. Unfortunately for the punter Bright And Sonny was beaten less than two metres by Fours Enuf Tas.
