HIS older sibling reached grand heights and left a big shadow to step out of but Whatabro has surpassed his famed family member in one area.

Thanks to his victory in Strathalbyn today Whatabro’s earnings have eclipsed Come On Frank’s freshman total.

Breaking his maiden at his 12th start for trainer Darren Billinger, the son of Four Starzzz Shark has bankrolled $13,810.

The freshman’s half-brother and Billinger stable measuring stick only amassed $11,825 during his first season.

“Frank took longer to come to hand and could just about only run 2:20 at this stage of his career,” Billinger said.

“Whatabro raced sooner and has now earned more, so I guess he has to get credit for that.

“At three though, Frank pulled up five yards past the post instead of five yards before it which made a huge difference.

“Only time will tell is he can go on with it like Frank did.”

With Billinger holding the reins Whatabro began quickly to lead from barrier three as Waitpinga Lad worked on his outside.

Fending off the initial challenge turning for home, the gelding completed two-and-a-half metre win from Whats Stanley Got, with Justabitofheaven a metre away third in 2:03.5 over 1710 metres.

“It was good to finally get his first win on the board,” Billinger said. “Once he got to the front and I was able to get a breather during the middle quarter I knew he would finish it off strongly.”

Whatabro’s win was the opening leg double for Billinger who bookend the meeting thanks to Steinman’s 2:02.4 triumph from Grinagain and Thomas Burns over 1710 metres.

“He is such a consistent horse,” Billinger said. “He’s won four of his last 12 starts and has also run six placings.

“He hasn’t finished further back than fourth during that time.”
