Bunbury trainer Sarah Wall had the distinction of landing the quinella in the 2130m Cowden The Insurance Brokers Pace at Gloucester Park on Sunday night when Make Your Mark, the second fancy at $4.90, gave a spirited frontrunning display to beat stablemate and $2 favourite Dontbesillychilli by a half length.

Chris Voak got Make Your Mark away speedily from the No. 5 barrier and the Somebeachsomewhere filly relished the role of pacemaker to notch her first win at her 12TH start.

Nathan Turvey restrained Dontbesillychilli from the No. 7 barrier before sending her forward, three wide, after 650m to work in the breeze. She finished determinedly but was unable to overhaul her stablemate.

Both fillies were bred by Wall and her husband Chris, who race them in partnership with other members of the family and six stable clients.

Make Your Mark is a half-brother to the speedy frontrunner Wesley, who has raced successfully for the Walls and has earned $163,186 from 15 wins and 12 placings from 53 starts.

Make Your Mark was driven for the first time by Voak, who won ten races with the filly’s relation Lord Lombo, who was retired after his 227 starts produced 24 wins and 46 placings for stakes of $286,504.

Make Your Mark also is related to former successful race mares Smooth Gale and Misty Maiden, as well as Lombo Skyrider (321 starts for 63 starts, 84 placings and $841,611) and Lombo Pocket Watch, who amassed $1,522,638 from 45 wins and 17 placings from 83 starts.
