MAGICNRACING has two big assignments ahead after taking out the Nixon’s Engineering Wagga Cup qualifier on Tuesday night at Wagga.
The powerfully built six-year-old will first start in the Albury Cup on Saturday night then a week later run in the $30,000 Wagga Cup.
Reinsman John Scott was able to hold the inside from barrier one and lead all of the way to hold out Verdot who also qualified for the Group 3 event.
Scott’s wife Hellenn and their son Baily share in the ownership of Magicnracing who was backing up for the third time in five days after also starting at Cobram (fourth) and Albury (second).
“He is only lightly raced for his age with just 16 starts and he is still learning,” Scott said.
“He will have these two Cup starts then have a break from racing for a month.”
Magicnracing has won six times and has earnings of $26,000.
He was the least experienced runner in the race in terms of starts and will face even stiffer opposition at his next two starts.
Hellen Scott said it was a huge thrill to win the qualifier.
“You like to have a horse in these Cup races and it was good the qualifier was on so we had a chance of making it,” she said.
Another of the night’s highlights was the first win by Alwaysuptomischief for trainer-driver David Crouch.
The Wagga trainer has been extremely patient with the six-year-old who was having his 38th start.
The winner is the only horse Crouch has racing and he received plenty of well wishers after the drought breaking win.
Meanwhile, Team Teal struck again when Monique Parsons drove a double.
She won with Pacific Paradise and Hurrysound adding a further $800 to the coffers of Team Teal.
Money raised from the promotion, which runs until March 11, goes to the Women’s Cancer Foundation.
Each time a lady driver wins, Harness Racing NSW donates $200 to the Foundation and Tabcorp matches this amount.
