Talk about a mixed bag! This week, three members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have made their best bets at Gloucester Park on Friday night all in the same race – and all different horses.

I’m tipping one of them will be right … but which one?

The clear leader in this year’s tipping competition, TABradio’s Matt Young has made Natural Disaster his star bet for the night.

“Natural Disaster is ideally drawn and is going to get a beautiful run throughout,” Young said. “He is very versatile and looks the one to beat.”

Not according to longshot king Pat Harding.

“My best bet comes up late in the night in race nine,” Harding said. “Simba Bromac has had two starts since a spell and performed pretty well. With only a small field of seven, Chris Lewis should have no problems from barrier six and I expect Simba Bromac to win well.”

But hold your horses, they’re both wrong, according to novice racecaller Hayden King.

“Thereugo can burn across and lead, looking likely to make every post a winner,” King said.

Maybe an all-ways trifecta – with the aforementioned runners – could be the way to go.

The West Australian’s Ernie Manning has opted for Our Corelli in the last as his best bet.

“Our Corelli won stylishly at Pinjarra on Monday when having his first start since joining trainer Debra Lewis’ stable and looks set to maintain an unbeaten record for his new team,” Manning said. “Lewis has won with a string of pacers, headed by Luis Alberto, after taking them over  from other WA stables this year. Our Corelli showed a lot of potential when he won seven races, including two at Gloucester Park, when prepared by Justin Prentice.”

GPTV’s Ken Casellas, fresh and raring to go after a long break, believes punters can get the night off to a great start in the opening event.

“Four-year-old One Off Delight has managed just one top-three placing from 11 starts this season – a win in modest company at Gloucester Park two starts ago – but he is my best bet on Friday night,” Casellas said. “Trained by Gary Hall and driven by Gary Hall Jr, One Off Delight should give punters a flying start to the meeting by setting the pace from barrier two and winning the opening event. He was a 33/1 outsider last Friday night when seventh behind Shockwave in much stronger company. He met with interference and had no luck at all after starting from the outside of the back line and therefore it will pay to overlook that failure.”

RWWA’s racing communications co-ordinator Tim Walker is keen on Ideal Liner.

“Ideal Liner recorded a good win last week and ran some solid time to go with it,” Walker said. “He should keep going on his merry way this week.”

The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft has made Vincenzo Peruggia his best for the evening.

“Vincenzo Perrugia falls back into a race he should just win this week,” Havercroft said. “Drawn the pole and over the sprint distance, he will lead and will be extremely hard to topple.”

Guild president Wayne Currall believes Some Copper Beach has drawn ideally to post an all-the-way victory in the $30,000 2YO Fillies Gold Bracelet (2130m).

“Some Copper Beach ran a cracking race behind the talented Double Expresso last Friday night,” Currall said. “She’s drawn the pole here and Aiden De Campo will be looking to lead from go to whoa. Two of her four wins have come from leading and she looks very hard to catch in this race.”

VALUE BETS

MATT: Dontstopbelievin is returning and is a brilliant frontrunner. If she is fit and ready she will run a big race at odds.

PAT: My value bet comes up in race seven with No. 5 Veiled Secret. The Olivieri/Voak combination should see this horse give punters a good sight in what is an average field.

HAYDEN: Suing You is very smart and I would be very confident had she drawn a barrier. With luck she will be hard to beat.

ERNIE: Trust My Judgement, a seasoned stand performer, will appreciate starting from only 10m behind after having to contend with a 40m handicap when unplaced at Pinjarra last Monday. He has won six races and run 25 places from standing starts.

KEN: For value, I suggest Lagoon Stride in race three in which he will start from the inside of the back line and should obtain a perfect trail behind the likely pacemaker Vincenzo Peruggia. He had a similar passage before finishing boldly to win at Gloucester Park on Tuesday night.

TIM: I’m convinced Come Dance With Me is a nice horse, but does need luck to win her races. If the speed is on here, which it should be, she can zap them late

RYAN: While still a maiden, Al Guerrero has drawn ideally behind the well-fancied Secret Operation in the Slipper Prelude. From there he should get an economical run and could figure in the placings.

WAYNE: Illusionation is drawn to get a cheap run in the first race. He has been racing quite consistently for Peter Tilbrook and can run into the money at big odds.

Veteran tipster and long-serving member of the Guild Stuart Lowe hasn’t been in the best of health lately. On behalf of all Guild members and the harness racing fraternity in general, we wish Stuart a quick recovery and hope to see him back on deck shortly.
