In a first for the WA Trotting Media Guild, each member has come up with a different best bet for Friday night’s mammoth 12-event card at Gloucester Park.

Longshot king Pat Harding is keen on the Colin Brown-trained and driven Typhoon Tiff.

“My best bet of the night comes up in race six with No. 4 Typhoon Tiff,” Harding said. “Her last two runs have been a bit ordinary but she did have good wins before that and I think from barrier four she could return to winning form.”

The West Australian’s Ernie Manning, who is still revelling in his namesake’s courageous victory in last week’s $100,000 Group 1 Pearl Classic, has made  Magical Mysty his best for the night.

“Magical Mysty, who hit form when winning third-up at Pinjarra, looks a two-year-old who could be headed for next month’s Golden Slipper,” Manning said. “The filly showed  speed at Pinjarra, rewarding co-trainers Greg and Skye Bonds’ educational skills. The Bond combination were Golden Slipper winners with Mitch Maguire (2016). Greg Bond was training solo when Ohokas Bondy won the 2010 Slipper for him.”

RWWA’s racing communications co-ordinator Tim Walker believes Aristocratic Star in the last can act as a banker for all-up punters.

“Aristocratic Star, fresh from his runner-up finish in the Pearl Classic, should prove too classy for his four rivals,” Walker said. “Looks a nice race for him to return to the winners’ circle.”

TABradio’s Matt Young has kept his thoughts short and sweet for this week.

“Tact Major has the gate speed to lead and is a natural roller,” Young said. “He should be able to go the trip and win the Free For All.”

But fellow racecaller Hayden King has opted for Im Soxy, in the same race, as his best bet.

“Im Soxy is absolutely flying and comes up with a cosy draw,” King said. “Will be rocketing home when clear.”

The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft is keen on Maczaffair.

“Maczaffair can return to the winning list when she contests the fillies and mares race,” Havercroft said. “She has had soft runs at all four starts since resuming, but she looks to have a class edge on her rivals here.”

Guild president Wayne Currall believes Space Junk is fitter after two runs back from an injury-enforced 11-month spell and can prove the testing material in the short-course stand.

“Space Junk raced too keenly at his last start and was left a sitting duck for the snipers,” Currall said. “He would have derived plenty of benefit from that hit-out and appeals as the one to beat off the front line.”

VALUE BETS

PAT: My value bet comes up in race eight with No. 2 Georgie Mae. I think this three-year-old filly has a great future and with the combination of Ross Olivieri, Chris Voak and a good draw she could give punters something to smile about.

ERNIE: Waimac Attack has not won in his past nine starts, but he fought on impressively to run two thirds after tough runs in the past three weeks. He faced the breeze on May 31, then was trapped three-wide a week later. He has won 10 races, including three at Gloucester Park.

TIM: Grand campaigner My Hard Copy is building up to a win. Was a sound performance last week behind Chicago Bull. From a better draw here, he can certainly play a part in the finish.

MATT: Absolution is racing really well with no luck. In an open event he can run into the money at big odds.

HAYDEN: Adda Tarantella has improved out of sight recently and can make her presence felt in one of the features.

RYAN: Shockwave has won five races this season and was a last-start fourth in the WA Derby. Resumes but possesses ability.

WAYNE: The speedy Major Artist should be the first one to get to the pegs before likely handing up to Patrickthepiranha. He’s being quoted at a huge price in early markets, but can run a cheeky race at odds.
