The $50,000 WASBA Breeders Stakes (2130m) is the highlight on an entertaining 10-event card at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
And two members of the WA Trotting Media Guild – The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft and Guild president Wayne Currall – have found their best bet in the night’s feature.
“Savvy Bromac looks hard to go past in the Breeders Stakes after coming up with the inside barrier draw and having one of her main rivals, Booraa, drawn behind her,” Havercroft said. “Though winless in her last seven outings, she has been running placings in strong company of late. This is no harder than her recent assignments and the prized inside draw makes her my best.”
And Currall agrees.
“Emily Suvaljko should be able to hold an easy lead with Savvy Bromac from the pole and from there she’s the one they all have to get over,” Currall said. “Hard to see where the pressure will come from and she appeals as a banker for the main quaddie and all-ups.”
TABradio’s Hayden King and longshot guru Pat Harding are in the corner of Beat City in race three.
“Beat City draws to lead and win,” King said. “Ragazzo Mach could take a chunk out of the market, but I expect Beat City to be too tough to catch and be the banker of the night.”
Harding is just as confident.
“There’s no doubt pacing is still tough at GP and I think that trend will continue this week,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race three with No. 3 Beat City. Had an excellent win last week and has been very consistent. With Gary Hall Jr aboard he should make it two wins in a row.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning is keen on To Fast To Serious in the free-for-all.
“Classy six-year-old To Fast To Serious looked near peak form when he finished strongly and ran free-for-all placings on the past two Friday nights,” Manning said. “He drew awkward barriers in those races, but reinsman Nathan Turvey should be able to position him well after starting from gate three this week. The Ray Williams-trained gelding has an impressive record of 16 wins, including nine at Gloucester Park, from 35 starts.”
Veteran journalist Ken Casellas has gone to the night’s stand to find his star bet.
“Glenledi Chief is one of the State’s best and most experienced standing-start performers, and I have no hesitation in declaring the five-year-old as my star bet, despite beginning from the 20-metre mark in race eight,” Casellas said. “The New Zealand-bred gelding, to be driven by Ryan Warwick for leading trainers Greg and Skye Bond, was most impressive in starting off 50m before romping to a brilliant first-up victory at Pinjarra on Monday of last week.”
TABradio’s Matt Young has opted for Adda Something for his best at the meeting.
“Adda Something is all or nothing for me,” Young said. “I think he can cross Spy Major and from there I think he would win if he leads.”
VALUE BETS
RYAN: Gee Smith is near-faultless from the strands and regularly finds the top. An each-way play at an indicative price of $11, his rivals will have to get around him to beat him.
WAYNE: Vivere Damore was brave in last week’s Run For Roses when she finished second behind Purest Silk off a 30m handicap. Kyle Harper jumps in the bike for the first time and she can run a race at a big price.
HAYDEN: Will I Rocknroll is ready to win. He’s drawn wide, but I can see him getting three-wide cover into the race and being dangerous at a healthy enough price.
PAT: My double comes up in race six with No. 1 Vultan Tin. Has had two wins in his last five starts and I think he can make it three from six.
KEN: For value I suggest Colin Brown’s speedy Arma Einstein in race two. His recent form has been most encouraging and he looks set to fight out the finish.
MATT: Miss Limelight is going well. She will get a soft run and some pressure could be applied and if she gets the splits, she can run a big race.
Remember the meeting starts early on Friday because of the football across the river. The first event is due to get under way at 4.20pm.
