15 June 2023 | Wayne Currall

Ernie Manning, known as The Great Ernesto following an article in last week’s The Sunday Times after his outstanding effort of tipping nine winners at Gloucester Park earlier this month, has done it again.

That’s right, the very next week after coming within a short half-head of tipping the card at headquarters, The Great Ernesto found another nine winners at GP last Friday night.

The man is flying, along with WA Trotting Media Guild president Wayne Currall who also found the same nine winners.

Punters will be keen to follow Manning’s tips for Friday night’s card, hoping he can make it a trifecta of nine winners … or maybe the card.

He fancies last-start winner Floewriter as his best bet on Friday night.

“Talented four-year-old Floewriter, who ended a run of five unplaced performances when he won last Friday night, should not be troubled by a class rise,” Manning said. “The gelding, trained and driven by Aiden De Campo, has been rated as a quality pacer since he won the Group 1 2YO Colts and Geldings Sales Classic in 2021. A winner at 11 of 25 starts, he is capable of being a Golden Nugget candidate.”

Currall is keen on The Mustang in race three.

“The Mustang has blistering speed out of the machine and could bounce straight to the front if champion reinsman Gary Hall Jr lights the fuse,” Currall said. “From there he’s certainly the one they all have to get over. He drops in class from last week’s excellent third behind  Finvarra.”

TABradio’s Matt Young and award-winning journalist Ken Casellas believe Rockmyster can continue building his picket fence in race five.

“Rockmyster has returned well and has the perfect draw and gate speed to lead and run along,“ Young said. “Looks very hard to beat.”

And Casellas agrees.

“Rockmyster is a wonderful frontrunner who has led and won at his past three starts,” Casellas said. “And he is poised to extend his successful sequence to four by leading and holding his rivals at bay in the Im Themightyquinn Pace on Friday night. Therefore I’m more than happy to make him my best bet this week.”

VALUE BETS

ERNIE: A Kellerberrin win has been Vintage Blu’s only victory in his past 27 starts, but he should not be underestimated. The gelding has drawn attention when running two Gloucester Park thirds in his latest four appearances. Though his record at headquarters is only two wins from 22 starts, he could be ready to add another city victory

WAYNE: The Michael Brennan-trained Cool Mach is drawn to get a cosy run behind likely leader Rockmyster in the Im Themightyquinn Pace at his first run in the west. He can run a race at odds.

MATT: Hunt The Magic is better suited at the distance and even from the draw I think she can get the job done in the opening event.

KEN: For value, I suggest Ardens Horizon who is favourably drawn on the inside of the 10-metre line in race eight. He has resumed after a spell in fine style with two wins and two seconds from four outings.

PAT: My double comes up in race 11 with the Greg and Skye Bond-trained Mighthavtime. She’s been about the place in recent runs and gets her chance here to record a good win.
