Vultan Tin has added yet another cup to his trophy cabinet, with the veteran pacer taking out the Group 3 TABtouch Narrogin Cup on Saturday night.
The impressive and ever so consistent gelding started from barrier one, leading all the way in a blistering 1:57:4 over the staying 2662m journey. His success comes just 19 days after his last cup victory; the 2021 Pinjarra Cup.
The Phil Costello bred, owned and trained gelding notched up his 29th career win, taking his total earnings to $930,401, edging himself closer to the exclusive million-dollar club.
“You never think they will earn that sort of money. Not even the people who buy good horses think they will win this sort of money; you just hope they will be good for you. It’s just the dream.” Costello said.
“He [Vultan Tin] didn’t owe me a cent after his second win. From memory his service fee was $1400”
Vultan Tin lost no admirers last start when he ran 5th in the Bunbury cup after a short back up, with punters happy to claim the $2.50 odds on the war horse on Saturday night. Teamed up with Shannon Suvaljko this week, the duo continued their winning form; Suvaljko was tagged in when piloting the then eight-year-old in the Group 1 Pacing Cup last December.
“We were confident going into the Narrogin cup on Saturday after his win in the Pinjarra Cup.”
Vultan Tin is likely to miss racing this week.
“I think it was a pretty hard run for him on Saturday, so I will just park him up for a few weeks and see what comes up.”
“There’s no sign of retiring. A vet hasn’t touched him since he was gelded as a yearling.” He joked.
When asked if the gelding had shown any signs of being a good horse, Costello joked that as a youngster, Frank as he’s affectionally known, was a bit of a terror, but he was doing everything that he wanted from him.
“He showed that he was tough, really tough. I don’t work for speed, I work for toughness. When they are young, they want to go. I teach them to go long and slow and to be patient”. He said.
Shannon drove a double on the card, with opening success in the first with the Glenn Elliot trained Soho Gigolo.
Vultan Tin is looking to join a short list of WA Horses to earn such a remarkable amount in prizemoney.
