For a one-month trial starting Monday, 6 March, connections of horses wishing to enter at a particular Victorian meeting but who do not believe there is a suitable race on the program will be able to nominate for a ‘supplementary’ race(s), which will be open to any class of horse or gait.
If the Harness Racing Victoria handicappers believe that they can compile a competitive race(s) from nominations received for the supplementary race(s), they will proceed with the inclusion of a supplementary race(s) on the race fixture.
“HRV is listening to our owners and trainers and we want to improve the opportunities to increase returns to participants,” HRV CEO David Martin said.
“This trial of supplementary race(s) is just one of several initiatives we are working on. We anticipate this trial may have some complexities, but we know that any supplementary race(s) are a win for the industry.”
