2Vicbred pacers Lennytheshark and Smolda have tied for Grand Circuit honours.

With yesterday’s Miracle Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle the final leg of the circuit, the duo are locked together on 260 points.

Lennytheshark went into the meeting 60 shy of Smolda, but managed the tie when second behind Have Faith In Me in the rich sprint.

Although missing from the Miracle Mile field, Smolda was successful in the Group One Bohemia Crystal Free-For-All, which is not part of the Grand Circuit.

Trained by David Aiken, Lennytheshark was triumphant in the Inter Dominion and Victoria Cup.

Smolda – a member of the Mark Purdon/Natalie Rasmussen team – won the A G Hunter Cup, while also finishing second in the New Zealand and Victoria Cups and third in the Auckland Cup.

It is the third time the Grand Circuit has resulted in a tie since its inception for the 1976/77 season when won by the mighty Paleface Adios.

Ironically, Purdon and Rasmussen were involved in the two previous dead heats.

Double Identity and Young Rufus – trained by Purdon – were locked together in 2003, while Mr Feelgood dead heated with Rasmussen’s superstar, Blacks A Fake, in 2009.
