The Victorian flavour runs deep in Friday night’s Gloucester Park showcase, with talented horses from Australia’s south-east prominent across a 10-race card.

While Lennytheshark and San Carlo loom large in the $1.1 million TABTouch Inter Dominion, Kerryn Manning’s presenting with a team thick on quality and quantity and the Victorian roots also run strong in the night’s trotting feature.

Victoria-bred trotters Itsgettingcalder and Lightning Calder will race for trainer Bruce Stanley, flying the flag for Rick Burchell’s Calder Park in the $50,000 feature.

They will match wares against Lord Liam, the Bob Mellsop trained and driven trotter whose journey also started in Victoria, having been bred and owned by Richard and Pauleen Matthews of Warrnambool.

Lord Liam will share the 30m mark in the standing start trot with Blue Sky Commander, Victorian owner Merv Butterworth’s six-year-old Skyvalley trotter whose peeled off four consecutive wins.

The trotting backmarker is formerly of Kerryn Manning’s camp and the Great Western trainer-driver will be well represented.

Brilliant mare Ameretto is well placed to claim the $125,000 Westral Mares Classic MS Pace, while Motu Meteor is third in the market in the $200,000 Retravision Golden Nugget.

Manning’s golden night may continue in the $50,000 International Animal Health Products San Simeon Final, with recent Kiwi acquisition placing second in his heat and drawing gate four for the Friday night final.

Manning will then likely polish off the night with Mr Mojito in the Westside Auto Wholesale MS Pace, with the Inter Dominion contestant also third emergency in the TABTouch Inter Dominion Consolation, which features Victorian Major Crocker from gate 10 for Vince Vallelonga.
