Vale Andrew Gilbert

Harness Racing SA, and the entire South Australian harness racing industry are deeply saddened by the news of the passing, last evening, of well-known local harness racing identity Andrew Gilbert.

Andrew was a highly respected horseman having either owned or prepared the high-class performers Dream A Dream; Friends For Life; Dixie Chick Dreama and Apocalypse Dreama but to name a few. These horses winning major races not only in SA but also, and significantly, on the national calendar. Dream A Dream being the outstanding filly of her year.

However, as successful as he was in the ownership ranks, it was in the preparation of juveniles where Andrew excelled. His ability to craft a young horse, and produce it to perform at its optimum from an early age, earned him a reputation second to none throughout the country.

As well as being an owner and trainer Andrew also served on the HRSA Board for a number of years and his contributions to the industry in South Australia were greatly respected.

Andrew was clearly one of the industries true gentlemen, and we express our deepest condolences and extend our sincere sympathies to his wife Julie, and children Jacinta, Christie and Bryce and his extended family.
