2YOU will not be seeing Bathurst reinsman Mitch Turnbull’s name in a New South Wales formguide for a while.

The 19-year-old has decided to spend a stint working in Western Australia.

Turnbull had two drives at Tabcorp Park Menangle last Saturday night and the next day was on a flight over to Perth.

“When I was on the Rising Stars tour, Stewie McDonald from WA said I should give it a go so I thought I may as well,” Turnbull said.

“I’ll be working with Ross Olivieri for at least a month or so.”

Olivieri is one of the leading trainers in the western state.

And he has not wasted any time putting Turnbull’s driving skills to use, nominating the Rising Stars reinsman to drive one of his pacers at Northam on Tuesday night.

Turnbull also obtained a drive on the Courtney Burch-trained Nothinbutadream at Pinjarra on Monday afternoon.

“I’m jumping straight into it,” Turnbull said.

This is not the first working holiday for the youngest son of Steve Turnbull.

He has spent stints working in both Queensland and Victoria.

Turnbull began driving in the 2012/13 season and has already steered home 85 winners in his succinct career.
