9GOULBURN pacer Tullow has come a long way in twelve months.  This time last year he was racing in New Zealand against maiden opposition but since coming to Australia, the son of Mach Three has blossomed for trainer Brad Hewitt.

The four-year-old gelding has won eleven races for his new connections and Hewitt is hoping to make it a dozen when he competes in the Wagga Pacers Cup on Friday night.  Tullow has already won the Canberra Cup and despite meeting a strong field Hewitt is confident of a strong performance.

“He just keeps getting better every start I give him, his last few runs have all been good and while Wagga is going to be his biggest test I think he can run a good race,” Hewitt said.

“Sporty Spook has drawn barrier one and has the most speed so I expect him to hold the front and if Wingara rolls forward we might end up in the one-one which would be ideal.”

Tullow’s last defeat came in a drivers invitational event at Bathurst and Hewitt was pleased with the run despite the loss.

“He ran a great race that afternoon, there was a lot of speed on, he came from well back and must have run some super sectionals because the leaders got home in 56 seconds.

“Then last start I thought taking on horses like Beetson and Saloon Passage was going to be too hard for him but he came out and ran the race of his life and recorded a very quick time.”

Hewitt will back Tullow up in Sunday’s Walla Walla Stakes at Goulburn over the 2760 metres.

“He’ll probably need a week or so to get over the hard weekend he has coming up but if he keeps on stepping up then I would be keen to take him to Queensland during the Winter Carnival.”
