WITH his concentration elsewhere today Nick Brown’s grades may have taken a hit, but the young reinsman Nick Brown certainly earned an ‘A’ during the weekend.

Partnering Lord Chancellor at Globe Derby, Brown produced a textbook drive to record his maiden Saturday night victory.

Naturally thrilled with the occasion, Brown hopes the initial success is the first of many to come.

“I was pretty excited to get my first winner on a Saturday night,” Brown said. “Hopefully there will be plenty more in the future.

“Driving is something I would like to do as much as possible and it would be a dream if I could make a living out of it.”

After leading from barrier two Brown eased Lord Chancellor to take a trail behind Runaway Success in what proved to be the winning move.

Enjoying the run of the race behind the pacemaker, Lord Chancellor was angled away from the pegs around the home turn before sprinting to a soft eight-and-a-half metre win from Magical.

Ceejay Success was two-and-a-half metres away third in 2:02.2 over 1800 metres.

“He got the perfect trip and was travelling so well down the back,” Brown said. “I knew he had them covered on the last turn and felt it was just a matter of him getting in the clear.

“He felt strong up the straight and hit the line with a bit up his sleeve.”

Along with his ambitions as a reinsman Brown has set his sights on animal nutrition which will see him attend university next year.

“I am looking at a degree in animal nutrition,” Brown said. “It is something I am aiming for after I finish secondary school this year.’
