1GIVEN the natural progression of his family, Brad Williamson is on target to enjoy a personal high in Western Australia during the next 10 days.

Williamson will head to Perth as a one of four New Zealanders in the Australasian Young Drivers’ Championship, which begins at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

To be conducted as a 10-race series, the Championship will be contested at various country venues before concluding at Gloucester Park on December 9 – Inter Dominion Day.

Drivers from across the Southern Hemisphere will compete in the event, with each Australian state also selecting a representative.

Williamson is the third member of his family to compete in the tournament, following in the footsteps of his brothers Nathan and Matthew.

Nathan finished third in 2009, while Matthew was runner-up in 2011, paving the way for Williamson to continue the ‘one better’ trend by claiming the title.

“Never thought of it that way, but I like the theory,” Williamson said. “It would be pretty amazing if it turned out that way.”

Williamson and his fellow competitors are due in Perth on Thursday, with the budding star reinsman excited about the trip.

“I’ve only ever watched the racing over there on television, so just to be in Western Australia to see the tracks and drive there will be fantastic,” Williamson said. “Also to put some faces to the names and meet new people is something I am looking forward to.

“I’m very grateful for this chance to wear the New Zealand colours and hopefully can them proud.”
