The leading Sydney stables of Kerryann Turner and Robbie Morris are eyeing off Brisbane features starting later this month.
With a new-look Queensland summer carnival planned from November 26 through to December 17, several features are programmed and for both gaits.
And the Menangle based couple have good options.
Their open class ranks include the likes of Iam Mr Brightside, Aztec Bromac and Stormont Czar – all fit and classy pacers in their own right.
Both Iam Mr Brightside and Aztec Bromac are scheduled to start this weekend at Menangle while Stormont Czar finished a game second yesterday (Tuesday) at Menangle behind Bettor Bet Black in 1:52.5.
The $20,000 Lord Mayors Cup is scheduled for November 26 which will then be followed by the $30,000 Be Good Johnny Sprint, the $20,000 Christmas Cup before ending with the $50,000 Gold Coast Cup on December 17.
“The fact that we’re not heading west to Perth for the Inter Dominion provides us with the opportunity to head north and take in the Brisbane carnival, there’s a number of good options and we’re just sorting out who will make the trip up. I doubt we will take three open class horses but more than likely, we’ll have two representatives in those features.” Morris said.
Both Iam Mr Brightside and Aztec Bromac have performed well in Brisbane previously while Stormont Czar is yet to race in the sunshine state.
The Gr.2 $40,000 Darrell Alexander Memorial Trotting Championship is also an attractive option for the Lucky Lodge operation.
Former New Zealand trotters Visualise and Yankee Commando have been earmarked for the series.
“Both trotters are in good form and both deserve an opportunity with this good prizemoney on offer, both are vastly different types of horses but both are very capable.
“Visualise has done a really good job since coming over and his latest effort was good against a nice trotter and the time was solid. Yankee Commando is still on the way up and looks suited under the conditions, he’s a good beginner and he’s consistent.
“The local trotters look fairly handy headlined by Our Overanova but he will be starting off a big handicap so that gives us a good chance. This series won’t be easy but we’re definitely in the mix.”
