5The Gunbower Pacing Cup is shaping up to be another successful racing event this year, thanks to a $17,000 funding package announced by the Andrews Labor Government today.

For the first time since its return to racing in 2012, the Gunbower Harness Racing Club will host two race meetings, with the Cup this Sunday, 20 November, to take centre stage.

The Government is providing more than $8800 towards the event, courtesy of its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program.

The club is also providing more than $5700, with Harness Racing Victoria contributing more than $3000.

The racing industry in the Ovens-Murray region generates more than $39 million for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 380 full-time equivalent jobs locally.

Racegoers will have the opportunity to book a popular umbrella enclosure and every booking receiving a complimentary race book.

Children’s activities will include an inflatable slide, face painting and a reptile show. The Gunny Gumboot Throw, Spit the Dummy and Wheelbarrow race competitions are also set to be crowd pleasers.

Racegoers will be entertained with live music performed by local musicians and a big screen will display all the race action and on-course entertainment. Trots identity Rob Auber will be the trackside MC.

A number of raffles will be drawn throughout the day, with local businesses providing prizes including wine, hampers and vouchers.
