Husband and wife Toby and Lisa Ryan landed an unusual double at Globe Derby Park last weekend.
On Friday night, Melegend, trained by Tony and driven by Lisa, won the Ubet Pace (2230m), race six on the seven race program.
Then on Saturday night at the same venue, they combined with Farasthe Eyecansee, their next runner, in the BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies Pace (1800m), the opening event, to record a runner-to-runner double.
To add to the story, Melegend and Farasthe Eyecansee are half-sister and brother being out of the mare Kates Horizon.
The pair were bred by Rod Tully, a good friend of the trainer, from Melbourne.
Lisa Ryan drove Farasthe Eyecansee ($2.90 fav) beautifully, settling one-out, one-back and bringing the four-year-old with a well- timed run to score by two metres from Eight Tee I ($8.80) with Spot on Chief ($19.30) five and a half metres away third.
It was the fifth win from just 21 starts for Farasthe Eyecansee.
“We don’t mind travelling to Port Pirie so I have been able to place him well,” Ryan said.
To complete the evening, the Ryans came away with a double on Saturday night with The Commander leading throughout in the final event, the Schweppes Australia Pace (1800m).
