AS Dubbo hosts its last meeting for the season the Harness Racing Club is making it a memorable one putting on two feature races to end the term with a bang.

The $10,200 Peter Lew Memorial has attracted a strong field and one three-year-old set to create interest in the event is the newcomer to the Steve Turnbull, Ring The Till.

Owned by Dubbo harness racing identities, the former New Zealand pacer is yet to race or trial on Australian soil.

“He just come over from New Zealand three weeks ago and it was either race him or trial him so we decided to give him a go in this,” Steve said.

“He is a nice looking bay horse and is working quiet well at home, well enough to trial or race.

“The Shanks family bought this horse and they asked me to look around for a horse for them and I found this bloke, hopefully he goes well for them.

“Robert Shanks is the Vice President at Dubbo and the family have been involved in trotting for years.”

Just like the Turnbull family.

The Turnbull family have figured prominently amongst the leading trainers and drivers in New South Wales for several seasons now and Steve looks set to win yet another state trainers title.

And daughter Amanda is on track to take out another NSW Drivers Premiership.

Heading into this weekend’s racing Steve has a clear lead having trained 170 winners for the season while Amanda has kicked to a clear lead having driven 184 winners in the state this term.

The father and daughter pair are strongly represented in meetings across NSW this weekend from Young (Friday), Menangle (Saturday), Dubbo and Melton (Sunday).

The other feature event at Dubbo on Sunday is the Garrards Iron Horse Series.

The invitational series, which sees the winning trainer receive a gig, is based on horses performances at Dubbo and Parkes throughout the season where they receive points for each of their runs at those respective tracks.
