The last time Sydney horseman David Thorn campaigned in Queensland, it was with Expensive Ego.

They combined for a Gr.1 double when snaring the QBRED Triad 2yo Final plus the Albion Park Gold Final back in the winter of 2019.

Plenty has changed since then.

Thorn’s current stable star is outstanding mare Anntonia while he’s also preparing plenty of promising young talent.

So, will we see the astute horseman again during the 2022 TAB Constellations?

“You won’t see Anntonia because she’s currently having a good break, I plan on giving her three to four months off. Heading into the Wagga feature, she became crook and then leading into the APG (Australian Pacing Gold) feature she was lame, so I’ve just stopped. I had a heap of tests carried out and while nothing was obvious, a good break with rest is the best remedy.” Thorn explained.

Anntonia has won 14 of her 25 starts with earning more than $400,000.

Another talented filly within the Thorn stable is Miss Ex, placed behind Not To Be Denied and Miss Chantilly in last week’s Gr.3 Golden Easter Egg at Menangle in record time.

The winning time was 1:50.1 eclipsed the previous record of 1:50.9 held by My Ultimate Baxter set back in January as the fastest three-year-old this season.

Could the Gr.1 $106,070 Queensland Oaks be a potential target for Miss Ex?

“I’d say unlikely at this stage, I was really proud of her effort the other night, but I’m inclined to give her a break right now and prepare her for the Breeders Challenge later in the year,” Thorn said.

“I think she’s good enough for a race like the Queensland Oaks, but a break now sets her up for the rest of the season. I’ll talk to the owners and see what they think is the best plan.” He added.

Miss Ex, a filly by Well Said, has won four of her 16 starts with earnings approaching $100,000.

The local fillies are spearheaded by multiple feature race winner Cat King Cole while the likes of Delightful Lou, Bejiggity, Racy Roxy and Alwaysbme among others.

The carnival runs from July 9 through until July 23.
