Three-year-old trotting filly Ten Spanners made it two wins from as many starts for trainer-driver Ryan Hryhorec at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night.
Backed from $1.80 to start a $1.50 favourite, Ten Spanners trotted to the lead to score a 26-1/2 metre win in the Lion Dairy & Drinks Trotters Handicap (2230m) beating Truscott Hall ($3.50) with Ten Caisses ($15.70), a metre away third.
Hryhorec said he was hoping to take Ten Spanners across for a heat of the Breeders Crown (2190m) at Maryborough on Thursday, August 17.
“The heats are worth $10,000, the final is $65,000 and there is a $20,000 consolation,” Hryhorec said.
“I’m not saying she would win but I think she is entitled to have a go as there is fantastic prizemoney.
“I really like the filly and I’m sure we haven’t got to the bottom of her. I have only had her for just over a month.
“She trialled well, then won on debut for me at Globe Derby Park before slightly injuring a leg which forced her to miss a run against Rocknroll Baby. I would have liked to have run to get a gauge on how the two compare.”
Hryhorec said the filly wasn’t fully wound up on Saturday night and would derive great benefit from the run.
Ten Spanners, formerly trained in Victoria, was purchased by longtime stable clients Frank Borg and Paul Brumby and a group of friends.
“I really like the filly and hopefully she wins a few races as she moves through the classes.”
Ten Spanners trotted away soundly from the standing start on Saturday and was left well clear when rivals galloped behind her.
It was left to Hryhorec to rate the filly as he liked and she peeled off quarters of 33.2, 32,3, 31.2 and 29.6 to win untouched.
