The race tracks around Tasmania are starting heat up with the December Carnival just around the corner with races such as the $20,000 City of Launceston Cup on December 3, $50,000 Group 2 Tasmania Cup and $20,00 George Johnson on December 23.

Some of the state’s best pacers go around this week in Launceston with the Doug Martin Danbury Park Cup while the open class mates go around in the Shirley Martin Mother of Pearl.

Last week veteran pacer Destreos brought up his 97th career win in Hobart which was the Ken Rattray -rained gelding’s first in the state. Earlier in the night exciting pacer Jaks Teller continued on his winning way when he won his seventh race in his short career.

This week in Harness Highlights we add a new feature with a recap of the Tasracing Offical Price information from each meeting. The price commences 20 minutes prior to start time and combines a number of corporate bookmakers prices into an average price.

The Stars

Destreos – the old boy was sent out $12 on the Tasracing Offical Price when he brought up his first Tasmanian win in Hobart. It was win number 97 for the 14-year-old gelding at his 370th race start.

Jaks Teller – now the winner of seven races from eight starts after winning the C3-4 Pace by 30 metres and the four-year-old entire continues to improve every start.

Wayne Campbell – hobby trainer who has his small team going well in recent weeks including a win with Ken Two Stars who won well in Devonport on Thursday.

Paul Williams – another trainer who has his team going well was rewarded for his patience with Metro Digby who won his first race since October 2015 after leading all the way to win in Hobart.

Craig and Hannah Van dongden – teamed up with Regal Idea at odds of $31 in Devonport. It was the Stonebridge Regal gelding’s tenth career win at his first start this preparation.

Was first up for the Marc Butler stable after being claimed in Launceston on October 22. Driven by Ricky Duggan in Hobart on Sunday evening the eight-year-old gelding settled one-out and five-back from outside of the second row. The winner of 17 races sat three-wide with cover over the final circuit before finishing the race off well out five-wide in the home straight to finish 3.6 metres behind the winner of the race Tuxedo Max.

Trial File

Seven trials were held at Carrick Park on Monday evening. The quickest trial winner from the session was All Style Sammy who whipped around the field to find the front at the 1400 metres and won the trial easily in a 2:02.8 mile rate. Other winners from the session included; Svensson, Solid As A Rock, Izaha, Art Edition, Frosty Union and Whenthegroundshook.

Week Ahead

The $10,000 Danbury Park Cup and the $10, 000 Mother of Pearl are the feature races on the bumper 10-event program in Launceston this Sunday evening.

The Danbury Park Cup looks to be dominated by the handicap runners with inform pacers from this season Fernco Bobby G and Im Barney Rubble sharing the 20-metre back mark.

While the Rohan Hadley-trained and driven mare Spitfire Rose is first up from a spell in the Mother of Pearl. She will be out to go one placing better after finishing second to Angel Or Demon in the race last year.
