It was a fantastic meeting in Hobart on Sunday where Full Speed Ahead took out the free-for-all, The Shallows continued to show his progressive talent and four-year-old mare Still Hungover displayed her best to win on the nine-race card.
This week we have two meetings.
Devonport host a Tier 2 meeting on Sunday night before the Launceston Pacing Club conduct a Tier 1 meeting on Wednesday night.
The Stars
The Shallows – after two below-par performances the Heath Woods-trained and driven pacer bounced back into the winner’s list when coming from last at the 400m in a fast last half-mile of a race that was ran in strong wind conditions. It was the Shadyshark Hanover gelding’s 11th career win at start 24.
Full Speed Ahead – driver Mark Yole was able to get some slow early sections and that was a big advantage late when the Zeke Slater-trained pacer defeated the shortest price favourite of the night, Ryley Major, to register the pacers fifth win of the season.
Still Hungover – registered her eighth career win at start 22 when the daughter of Sutter Hanover scored on Sunday. Driver Ricky Duggan worked forward to find the lead at the 1350-metre mark where she proved too good late. The Rodney Ashwood-trained pacer will be chasing back-to-back sires’ stakes wins in the Granny Smith in Devonport later in the year.
Cinocal Jamane – led all the way to break her maiden at start 18. The Lindsay Tatnell -trained, owned and bred pacer was driven by Dylan Ford, who was having his second drive since returning from an enforced break.

Carrick Park – Saturday morning
Trial 1: He’s Watching two-year-old gelding Dustydonowrong showed good early speed to find the lead over the 1670-metre trip and the Taylor Ford-trained pacer sprinted away from his rivals at the 300-metre mark to score by 10 metres in 2m 7.0s.
Trial 2: was another two-year-old trial which was also taken out by another leader, this time in the way of the Mark Reggett-trained Lets Go Bill, who defeated talented filly Bridwood Bella who galloped in the early stages before working to the line nicely, by 10-metres in 2m 10.1s.
Trial 3: saw the Conor Crook-trained four-year-old Loch Nes Franco score a 20-metre win. Placed in two of three New Zealand starts, the daughter of Changeover settled back second last early before being positioned in the one-out one-back position for the final 1400 metres, the filly swept around the field at the 450 metres and was never in doubt.
Trial 4: Saw four three and four-year-old’s go around where Betterthancheddar gelding Zelensky Leis scored a head victory after settling three-back the pegs for trainer-driver Todd Rattray, before leading up the one-wide line over the final lap in 2m 10.3s
Trial 5: was the fast class trial of the morning. Naturally, they recorded the quickest mile rate of the morning of 2m 4.3s, which was recorded by Hafter who enjoyed a soft run behind the leader before obtaining an inside run at the top of the home straight to score over Courageous Katee and The Floyd.
Trial 6: saw Hustler Halo score a three-metre win. The nine-year-old gelded son of Henry Halo was first-up since March 2017 with his resume reading one win and two placings from eight starts. The pacer broke stride when the start was affected, driver Adrian Collins got the pacer back down and pacing and he progressed around the field to take up the lead during a slow lead time and first half mile to score by three metres in 2m 7.8s.
Hobart – Sunday evening
Trial 1: Two-year-old filly Most Perfect Major caught the eye winning three trials during the COVID-19 shut down before being defeated 58 metres at her first start on 14 June. The filly stepped out for the first time in a trial on Sunday where she settled last in the three-horse field before being letdown at the 600-metre mark to record a 30-metre win in 2m 2.1s.
Trial 2: was won by the Bradley Walters-trained Le Wi Bulent who led all the way to defeat stablemate Creme De La Creme by 3.3 metres in 2m 3.2s.

Former Kiwi pacer who is now prepared by Conor Crook trialled well at Carrick on Saturday and is rated at 49 so she should find a suitable race first-up.

Week Ahead
The Devonport Harness Racing Club stage a seven-race card on Sunday night, the clubs first meeting since 15 March.
Leading trainer Ben Yole is well represented across the card including in the fast class race of the night, the Jeremy Rockliff MP Mobile where he puts the polish on five of the six starters.
The meeting which will be on Sky Racing 1 commences at 17:42 on what is a big day of racing on the north-west coast with thoroughbred racing at Spreyton during the afternoon.
On Wednesday evening the Launceston Pacing Club host a Sky 1 race meeting at Tier One level.
Nominations and acceptances close at 9:30 am on Friday with the fields to be released later that afternoon.
