Yabby Dam Racing Australian Drivers Championship night was the best promoted harness racing meeting in the state for a long time, and the Tasmanian Pacing Club and all parties involved were rewarded with one of the biggest crowds seen on a harness racing track in Tasmania in a number of years.
On the track not only did we see the nation’s best drivers but we saw plenty of nice horses including Jaks Teller, Streitkid and Semowillrev.
This week the action turns to Launceston for an eight event program.
The Stars
Chris Alford – was crowned as the Australian Drivers Championship winner. “The Puppet” finished the night with a driving treble and two placings across the eight races.
Chris Geary – very talented young driver from New South Wales proved to the nation that he can mix it with the country’s best with a driving double on the program including the first race favourite Buster William and 50/1 chance Itz Gemmas Delight.
Todd Rattray – the local representative didn’t have a lot of luck in the sulky, but made up for it with a training double on the card with the wins of Hafter and Goggo Gee Gee
Tasmanian Pacing Club – the club headed by CEO Steve Devereux did an excellent job off the track with the promotion of the meeting in conjunction with Tasracing.

Driver Ryan Warwick led up the three wide line over the final lap and stuck with the early leader and short-priced favourite Hafter untill half way down the home straight where Rollon Jack kept battling away to hold second placing. The Tasracing Calculated Sectionals recorded Rollon Jack’s last half mile in 57.89 seconds the second quickest last half in the race.

Six trials were held at Carrick Park on Monday evening.
The Shelley Barnes-trained Safari Rose led all the way to win a C3 and better trial in the quickest last mile of the night of 2:02.1 for the 2150 metre trial.
The session also saw the return to the state of Solid As A Rock who won a C3 and Better standing start trial and Lynniemach who won a trial for C0/1 assessed pacers.
Other winners on the night were Dayraid, Volokova Leis and Never Unachievable.
Week Ahead
The action heads back to Launceston this Sunday evening for an eight-race program.
The opening race of the night sees the return of the Michael Maxfield owned Lynniemach back to the state after a recent interstate campaign. Her trainer-driver Paul Ashwood trialed the four-year-old mare at Carrick Park last Monday evening where she was able to lead all the way to score. Her main danger in the race is the Shelley Barnes-trained Volokova Leis who also won a trial at Carrick Park on Monday evening.
The fast class race of the night is the Ranvet Pace where Destreos will be out chasing his first win since arriving in the state when he starts off a 30-metre handicap in the 2200 metre event.
The first event is set down for 17:57.
Harness racing returns to the state’s north-west coast on Thursday night, November, 9 at the Devonport Showgrounds with nominations for that meeting closing a 9:00am on Monday.
