13 March 2024 | Duncan Dornauf for Tasracing

The Country Cup season came to a close when Pardoe Plugga claimed victory in the Page Transport Carrick Cup on Sunday afternoon in front of a well-patronised crowd.

The meeting was held after a seven-race program in Hobart on Friday, which featured the first heat of the Sinbad Bay.

This weekend, there will be further heat of the Sinbad Bay and two heats of the Jane Ellen feature in Launceston on Sunday night. Friday night racing is being held in Hobart.

The Stars

Pardoe Plugga – after winning the Meander Valley Cup last month, the Leigh Rand-trained eight-year-old gelding added the Carrick Cup to his resume after a dominant win in Sunday’s feature race with Charlie Castles in the sulky.

Dylan Ford and Tammy Langley – continued their terrific run in recent months, combining to win four races at Sunday’s meeting. Ford also had success on the Steve Lukac-trained Kerala Star taking his tally for the day to five wins.

Artyboy Glenwood – is trained on the Carrick Park track, and he certainly loves the short stroll to the races. The Brian Mackrill-trained pacer had four starts at Carrick Park this season, three wins, and one second-place finish.

Hes Charlies Angel – the Charlene Gusman-trained pacer, has remained in the state after his Tasmania Cup preparation and was able to score his ninth career win in Sunday’s fast-class race after a brilliant drive by Rohan Hillier.
