The New South Wales Breeders Challenge has produced another week of strong results, none more impressive than the performance of the Kevin and Kaye Seymour owned Leap To Fame who smashed the Tamworth track record by seven tenths of a second on his way to an empathic win last Thursday afternoon.
Leading Queensland trainer-driver Grant Dixon travelled south of the border with two runners for his hit and run mission to contest the Tamworth heat for colts and geldings, his other runner Tims A Trooper finishing third.
But nothing could be taken away from Leap To Fame despite him only snatching victory in the shadows of the post as he was forced to work hard in the breeze after finding the ‘death seat’ shortly after the start.
When Dixon asked the colt for the supreme effort he lifted and was able to overpower fellow Queenslander Teddy Disco who had set the slick pace over the mile journey which was run in 1.54.3, eight tenths of a second faster than the previous benchmark.
The fillies heat at Tamworth was taken out by talented filly Flare Up for Newcastle father and son combination Darren and Brad Elder after she led and never looked in danger of defeat.
At Penrith on Thursday night, the expectations of promising Menangle colt Our Ultimate Ronnie were maintained when he led and held on to a one and a half metre advantage over his rivals to record his nineth win from fourteen starts in another Breeders Challenge qualifier.
Driver Cam Hart needed to get busy to ensure Our Ultimate Ronnie staved off a spirted challenge from Jalaneel who gained a run along the pegs and got close in the end.
The Jack Trainor juggernaut continued its great run of success when Captn Me caused a bit of a boilover in the fillies Breeders Challenge heat at Penrith when she defeated short priced favourite Madrid.
Trainor drove Captn Me himself on Thursday night and the win was on the back of victory in the Bankstown Oaks a week earlier.
On Saturday night Trainor capped off a good week, providing the quinella in the feature race at Tabcorp Park Menangle, the Group 3 Norms Daughter Ladyship when Braeview Kelly made it four wins from her past five outings at headquarters.
Stablemate Town Echo ran second, half a head away.
