Smart four-year-old Al Guerrero ended a losing sequence of eight when he led throughout and scored an easy victory a fortnight ago, and reinsman Kyle Harper advises punters to stick with the stallion when he starts from the No. 2 barrier in the 2130m Donate Now To Pacing For Pink Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
“I spoke with the boss (Pinjarra trainer Kyle Anderson) today (Tuesday) and he said that Al Guerrero had worked sensationally since his last-start win,” said Harper.
“His latest run was excellent, and he is a very good horse in front. From barrier two, we will be having a red-hot look for the front, and if he leads, he will be very hard to beat.
“Rocknroll Whitby (barrier one) begins okay, but we will be making a point of getting to the front. Al Guerrero is a dead-set frontrunner. He can win from behind but he’s five times the horse in front. So, we will be putting most of our eggs in that basket.”
Al Guerrero will clash with several in-form pacers, including Will I Rocknroll, Bettor Copagoodone, Blue Blazer, Powerplay and Valbonne.
Will I Rocknroll struck top form with a brilliant victory last Friday night when he sprinted fast from twelfth at the 650m to burst to the front 250m later, on his way to scoring easily from the fast-finishing pair of Pierre Whitby and Tiffany Rose.
However, that event was run at a moderate tempo and the final 800m was run in a modest time of 59.2sec. Will I Rocknroll faces stiffer opposition this week and is at a disadvantage, starting out wide from the No. 8 barrier.
Star reinsman Chris Voak said that Bettor Copagoodone maintained her excellent form with her second placing to Euphoric Moment at Pinjarra on Monday afternoon.
“Giles (trainer Giles Inwood) thought she was underdone for Monday, and it was still a very good run to finish second,” said Voak. “He expects her to be better on Friday night.”
