4In the Melbourne Magistrates Court today licenced harness racing participants Greg Cramp and Shayne Cramp were convicted of charges under Section 195C of the Crimes Act (1958), which relates to engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome of event or event contingency.

Greg Cramp pleaded guilty to one charge relating to Race 5 at Mildura on November 12, 2014.

Shayne Cramp pleaded guilty to one charge relating to Race 6 at Mildura on October 29, 2014, and Race 5 at Mildura on November 12, 2014.

Both men received community corrections orders, Shayne sentenced to 300 hours unpaid community work and Greg to 200 hours.

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) CEO John Anderson acknowledged the cooperation between Victoria Police’s Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit, the HRV Integrity Unit and the Office of The Racing Integrity Commissioner in bringing these serious matters before the Court.

“HRV particularly wishes to acknowledge the significant efforts and dedication of the Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit in investigating this complex matter, and the Victoria Police Prosecutions Division, noting it to be the first successful prosecution in any form of racing throughout the country for such offending,” Mr Anderson said.

With respect to the process that remains, whereby the decision in the criminal proceedings remains subject to an appeal period and both Shayne and Greg Cramp being required to present before harness racing authorities for further proceedings, HRV are unable to make any further comment at this point in time.

Shayne and Greg Cramp remain permanently stood down from having any participation in the harness racing industry, as they have been since the time of their arrest.
