When Lennytheshark returns to racing in a couple of weeks he will do so as the Australian Horse of the Year.
It one of the easiest and most clear votes of modern history, David Aiken’s superstar won the award this week.
The entire raced 13 times last season for eight wins, five seconds and earned $1,343,098.
Along with the Perth Inter Dominion, he also won the Victoria Cup, Ballarat Cup, NSW Golden Mile and Smoken Up Sprint.
He finished the season with that slashing Miracle Mile second to Have Faith In Me at Menangle in the record-breaking 1min47.5sec.
“What a season it was,” trainer David Aiken said. “We have him the grounding the season before and it set him up well for all the great things he did last season.
“Now we are about to start it all again and we’re following the same plan which worked for us last season. He’ll be back racing in two or three weeks.”
There wasn’t as much Kiwi flavour in the Aussie awards as there has been in recent years, but Our Waikiki Beach did win the 3YO pacing colt/gelding category.
And former Kiwis Keystone Del (Australian trotter of the year) and High Gait (3YO trotting filly) also captured awards.
