VICTORIAN raider Shadow Sax has drawn to extend his perfect start to the season when he heads to Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Unbeaten from six starts for the term, Shadow Sax is engaged in the South Australia Cup for record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart.
To be driven by master reinsman Gavin Lang, the son of Shadow Play has drawn barrier five, but slots into four with the removal of the emergency.
Thrilled with the five-year-old’s starting position, Stewart is positive Shadow Sax can add the Group One to his ever-growing list of credentials.
“It’s a good draw for him,” Stewart said. “From there he will be going forward and having a look for the lead.
“He’s also proven he can do a bit of work in his races, so there are options from that draw.
“He’s been freshened up since winning the Geelong Cup last month and had a solid trial at Ballarat last week, so he’s in great shape for this.”
Selecting last weekend’s GroupTwo winner Messini as the one to beat, Stewart rates Major Crocker as the biggest threat among the locals.
Messini will begin from barrier 11, with Major Crocker drawn the outside of the second row.
Owned by Harness Racing SA board member Gary Crocker, Major Crocker made a winning debut for local horseman Justin Brewin last week in what was his first start in five weeks and is expected to benefit from the outing.
