Leviathan Queensland owner Kevin Seymour has purchased Ohoka Punter from his Christchurch owner, Katie Carville.

Carville had been racing the Bettor’s Delight entire from Gary Hall’s Perth stable in recent times.

Seymour says he acquired Ohoka Punter to be a sire at his Egmont Park Stud, alongside Mr Feelgood and Hurrikane Kingcole and he arrived there on Friday.

“I’m not sure whether I’ll keep him as a private sire or offer him to the public,” he said.

“He should make a good cross for my mares and I like the fact that he is by Bettor’s Delight.

“He goes back to Armalight and Mistron, which was one of my foundation mares.”

Ohoka Punter had a storied career, firstly for Tony Herlihy in Auckland, then Nathan Purdon in Melbourne and, finally, Hall in Perth.

He’s a millionaire and winner of 25 races, including three at Group 1 level.

In 2013 he won the Northern Derby over Adore Me, Franco Nelson and Mossdale Conner, a month after defeating Lennytheshark and Bit Of A Legend in the Victoria Derby.

Perhaps his most famous win came in the hands of Purdon, who won the Blacks A Fake Queensland Championship with him in 2016, defeating Hectorjayjay and Christen Me.

His comeback to reach millionaire status was made all the more special given he missed virtually his entire four-year-old season with a serious leg injury.
