Burwood Stud, which was founded in 1982 by Noel and Christine Denning and has stood the successful sires Ultimate Falcon, Cammibest and Changeover, have been long-time supporters of the Australian Pacing Gold sales-race series.
This year the stud is offering seven well-bred yearlings – the third largest draft at the sale – at Magic Millions, Gold Coast on Sunday, January 28.
“They are a great bunch of youngsters. They are all well grown and very mature,” studmaster Noel Denning said.
Lot 18, a strongly built bay colt by the former NZ 3YO and 4YO of the Year Ultimate Machete, now making an impact with his first stock racing as two-year-olds, is perhaps the cream of the crop. He’s out of the former smart racemare Come Cullect (1:52), a winner of 20 races including the Group 3 NSW Ranji Bill Stakes and $204,316.
“He’s an excellent type who’s really well put together,” Noel said.
The Soho Tribeca-Country Change bay/brown filly, listed as Lot 23, looks certain to create plenty of interest.
A striking type, the filly is out of the Group placed WA mare Country Change (1:56.8), the dam of the good Gloucester Park winner Soho Changeling (1:56.5) and the Tasmanian 3YO Country Championship winner Soho Senna.
Lot 59, a Soho Tribeca filly owned by the Denning’s son Jonathon and wife Megan, is an excellent dual purpose prospect. Out of the McArdle mare Moonlight Spirit (1:57.1), she ranks as a half-sister to three juvenile winners and belongs to the same family as the NSW Derby winner Top Speed and the NZ Group 1 winner Blazing Spirit.
“She’s a very nice filly, very athletic with an excellent temperament. She’s a bit special,” Noel said.
The Burwood Stud draft also includes a Capt Midnight half-brother to three sub 1:56 performers including the dual NSW Group placegetter Karloo Threeothree (Lot 30), A Rocknroll Dance half-sister to the WA Easter Cup winner Hector and the NZ Nevele R Series placegetter Mantra Blue (Lot 44), a The Storm Inside brown colt from the American-bred mare Romancing Ashley (Lot 71) and an American Ideal filly from the 1:53 Menangle winner Chika Mattgregor (Lot 16).
All the Burwood Stud draft are eligible for the rich QBred Bonus Scheme, while the Soho Tribeca fillies are also eligible for Vicbred and the Ultimate Machete colt is also eligible for the NSW Breeders Challenge.
