Thirty-three degrees, a light southerly wind and barely a drop of rain in sight is the forecast for a fantastic day out that’s several months in the making.
Sunday will be take two for the Weirs IGA Supa St Arnaud Pacing Cup after its November 13 staging was abandoned due to heavy rain, and club secretary Kaye Boyd said they were thrilled with the way the industry rallied around the big day.
“It’s all coming together really well,” Ms Boyd said. “To see these great nominations from the trainers is wonderful. To have eight races is terrific. It tops it all off, all your hard work that you put in pays off when you have the support not only of the locals, but of all the trainers.”
Some 83 horses will grace Lord Nelson Park, including a field of 10 for the $14,000 pacing cup and 12 for the $14,000 St Arnaud Sporting Club Trotters Cup.
Off the track there will be plenty of reason for trots lovers to get along, with entry free and a host of activities on course.
“Because of the disappointment of November when it rained out we decided we wanted to open the cup to everyone and offer them free entry,” Ms Boyd said.
“There will be a lot of activities including betting vouchers, a punters’ club and stufflers for the kids who can make their own teddy bear and take it home with them. There’s a photo booth, face painting and pony trots as well.”
Two $2500 holidays, one to Margaret River and the other the Sunshine Coast, will be raffled off to club members. Patrons can buy a membership on the day for only $10.
