SOUTH Australian reinsman Ken Rogers may have to get used to sleeping with one eye open following today’s Victor Harbor program.
Driving the Lars Ahlfors-trained Brohart to victory in the third event, Rogers beat Dani Hill, who partnered That Said, by a short half-head.
Although that is hardly reason to lose sleep through fear of retaliation, Rogers’ win robbed Hill the opportunity of driving the card.
Enjoying a ‘red letter’ day, Hill captured the other five races.
While ruining Hill’s chance of completing a clean sweep of the meeting is bad enough, it is the second time in less than 12 months Rogers has done it to the leading reinswoman.
Last March Rogers drove Wills to score at Port Pirie, while Hill won the other six races of the evening.
“I put an end to her streak, so even with a win, I feel like the villain,” Rogers said after Port Pirie.
This time around Rogers is hoping the ‘Godmother of SA racing’ doesn’t come looking to retribution!
“At least with her love of horses I don’t have to worry about finding a head in the bed,” Rogers joked.
“Seriously though, what odds would you get if you tried to back me doing that again to Dani at a meeting?
“You just couldn’t back it.”
Thrilled with her haul, Hill has issued a tongue-in-cheek warning to Rogers.
“I can’t believe he’s done it again…he’s a thorn in my side,” Hill said. “He better watch his back…even in the shower, even at picnics, he better watch his back!
“He will never know where I might jump out from.”
For the record, Hill’s wins came with My Man Dan, Oohlala Lady, Springfield Desire, King Of The Roses and Arambi Star.
It is the fourth time Hill has piloted five winners at a meeting.
Hill so is also one of only four drivers to complete a sextet, with Geoff Webster, David Harding and Wayne Hill rounding out the elite group.
She is the only SA driver to have multiple ‘bags’ of six to her name!
As for Rogers, he is enjoying another strong season in the cart having registered a personal best last term.
