Talented pacer My Mastercraftsman is close to a return.
Originally prepared by Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen before transferring to the stables of Adam Sanderson at Fernvale, the Bettors Delight gelding was set for the winter carnival after a stopover in Sydney.
The former New Zealand pacer has not raced since competing in the Queensland Derby where he finished 7th behind Catcha Lefty during the Brisbane winter carnival back in July.
Now, he’s ready to go again.
“I’m really happy with the way he’s come back this prep because he’s thrived during his time away and he’s really enjoyed the warm Queensland sun on his back when having his down time. He’s definitely bulked up and he’s set for a good campaign all things being equal.” Sanderson said.
My Mastercraftsman will trial this Friday at Albion Park.
With the Brisbane summer carnival just around the corner, Sanderson has good options in the coming weeks.
“He will have a trial later this week and that will tighten him up nicely, whether we trial again or go straight back to the races will be determined by his performance in the trial. I’m expecting a good trial from him this week.
“I was happy with his condition when he returned from the break, he’s quite typical of the Bettors Delight progeny and his work has been solid. They’ll run quick time in the trial like they normally do given how warm it is currently up here but I won’t be knocking him about.
“The fact he’s on a loose mark gives me plenty of options going forward, a horse of his ability coupled with the mark he’s assessed at gives me some wiggle room and there’s some nice races programmed in the coming weeks and months. There is a Rising Stars series coming up next month and I expect to start in that all going to plan.”
Another option is the $15,000 APHRC Members Cup scheduled for November 26.
My Mastercraftsman is owned by recent New Zealand Cup winning owner Trevor Casey, a great supporter of harness racing throughout Australasia.
