FORMER South Australian Geoff Webster is hoping for a happy homecoming of sorts this weekend.

Although he will remain at his Victorian base, Webster has two pacers engaged at Globe Derby tomorrow night, with the pair set to contest Southern Cross heats.

Unable to make the trip for the qualifiers, Webster will try to head back to his grassroots for next week’s Finals should his duo make their way into the deciders.

“Things are very busy at the moment and it can make it hard to get away,” Webster said. “I hope to be there next week.

“They are staying with Mick Norman and got to his place yesterday.

“Mick said they’ve settled in well, are eating up and he’s really happy with them.”

A heat winner last season, Elegant was then second in the Final, with Webster confident the filly can “go one better this year”.

To be driven by Dani Hill, the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere will begin her campaign from barrier three.

“We haven’t got Encipher to chase this time which makes it easier,” Webster said. “She will appreciate that.”

Also to be partnered by Hill, Cobber has drawn five in the second three-year-old colts’ and geldings’ heat.

“It’s a drop in class on the metro grade he’s been racing lately, so I expect him to be very hard to beat,” Webster said.
