LEADING horseman Ryan Hryhorec admits he is in a ‘catch-22′ predicament ahead of Sunday’s Gawler Trotters’ Cup.
Hryhorec has three runners in the feature, including Mass Destruction which is in sensational form.
Driven by Hryhorec and star reinswoman Dani Hill, Mass Destruction has won the Gramel and Strathalbyn Cups during his last two starts, with the events doubling as the opening legs of SA’s Cup Circuit.
It’s those victories which have the prospect of becoming an issue for Hryhorec and the son of Muscle Mass as the series works its way into the Final at Globe Derby on April 30.
Should Mass Destruction continue his streak he may ultimately face an impossible handicap in the Final – the South Australia Trotters’ Cup.
“Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been lucky to have won the first two, but if he happens to keep winning I can see it becoming a problem for the Final,” Hryhorec said.
“Another couple of wins and he’s likely to be handicapped out of it, which is frustrating cause it’s the main race you’re working towards.
“He was off 10 in the first race and now is off 20 metres on Sunday.
Despite his handicap Hryhorec is confident Mass Destruction can complete a hat-trick over 2550 metres
“I couldn’t be happier with the way he is going,” Hryhorec said. “His work has been terrific and he’s taking that to the races.
“It’s going to be harder again for him going back another 10 metres, but he’ll still put in a good run.”
Hryhorec will also be represented by Aldebaran Alissa and C K Spur, which he will partner from a 30-metre back mark.
Runner-up in the Strathalbyn Cup before winning at Globe Derby last weekend, Aldebaran Alissa shapes as the one to beat from the front line.
Lisa Ryan will take the reins behind the daughter of Muscle Mass.
“I’ve been rapt with her last few starts,” Hryhorec said. “She is in the right form and has the right draw to put her right in the race on Sunday.”
