IT WAS a slightly different order than expected, but ultimately the result was as predicted in the Golden Nursery at Globe Derby during the weekend.
After dominating the heats – with his runners filling the quinella in both – trainer Ryan Hryhorec was touted to repeat the dose in the Alabar-sponsored Final.
While Hryhorec’s team did meet expectations by completing the trifecta, the previously unbeaten Jamaican Rock had to settle for third.
Driven by Hryhorec, Jamaican Rock raced greenly “but still had every chance” of beating Hes All Torque and Nicely Spoken.
The night, however, belongs to Hes All Torque, which took his record to two wins and two seconds from five starts for owner Ian Corazzol.
“I was happy with my four,” Hryhorec said. “They all put in good runs.
“Jamaican Rock cost himself, but still had every chance to beat the winner.
“Hes All Torque is a nice horse in his own right and I can’t see any reason why he won’t keep getting better.”
With Dani Hill holding the reins, Hes All Torque was settled at the tail of the field from his second row draw as Nicely Spoken led from barrier four.
Gaining a three-wide trail at the bell, Hes All Torque reached the front in the last stride to score by a short half-head.
Jamaican Rock was four metres away in 1:56.9 over 1800 metres.
“He’s having a nice easy day or two then I’ll likely race him in the Lordship Stake in a couple of weeks,” Hryhorec said. “After that he, and the other three, have the Southern Cross a couple of weeks later.”
