GIVEN the results of the past decade it just wouldn’t feel like the Southern Cross series without Larrakeyah Lady’s descendants making an appearance.

Larrakeyah Lady’s daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters and even great great granddaughters have continued her amazing legacy, with eight Southern Cross champions in the clan.

One of Larrakeyah Lady’s daughters – Lifeline – has a particularly strong connection to the event.

Lifeline is responsible as the dam, grand dam or great grand dam of six Southern Cross winners!

An unraced mare, Lifeline is the grand dam of outstanding filly Treachery, which completed a clean sweep of the futurity last season.

Luckless in last week’s Breeders’ Crown Final at Tabcorp Park Melton, Treachery will return to Globe Derby to defend her title on Saturday night.

Should the Emma Stewart-trained youngster complete consecutive wins, she will join her mother Lovelist on three-year-old honour roll.

Lovelist captured the three-year-old division in 2015.

“It is an amazing family,” Stewart said. “Especially the fillies, which not only do so well on the track, they breed on after racing.

“Each year one of the mares just produces another nice two-year-old.”

As for her pending assignment, Treachery has drawn to settle forward from barrier four in the second heat.

“She’s come through the Crown in great shape and is ready to go again,” Stewart said.

Stewart also has Runaway Celebrity – another Larrakeyah Lady descendant – in the opening qualifier.

Runaway Celebrity will begin from the middle of the back row.

“She did a good job against a super field in the Crown Final,” Stewart said. “I don’t think it is unreasonable to say this is a big drop in class on what they have been up against in recent weeks.

“They’ll both be very hard to beat.”
