THERE has been plenty of coverage surrounding the interstate success of South Australian-bred stock in recent months.
Thanks to the feats of Majestic Cruiser and Encipher, SA appears to be on the verge of a resurgence.
Bred and owned by Des and Heather Glynn, Majestic Cruiser is a last start winner of The Blacks A Fake, having captured New Zealand’s Messenger Championship earlier in the year.
Last season’s premier two-year-old, Encipher is a dual Group One and a Group Two star.
Owned by Tyson Linke, who also bred the filly, Encipher made a cameo in May to secure the SA Oaks at her only outing for the season.
Judging by yesterday’s Gloucester Park results, the duo may have a headline grabbing rival.
Having his third start, Rolling Fire registered his second win by securing a Pearl Classic heat.
Settled towards the tail of the field from his wide draw, Rolling Fire produced a scintillating sprint to score by three metres from Dourado, with Fess Up a head away third.
Bred and part-owned by prominent SA businessman Gary Crocker, the son of Roll With Joe rated 1:57.8 over 2130 metres.
“He was a cracking type as a foal and yearling and appears to have the ability to match his looks,” Crocker said.
“I bought the mare because I wanted a Roll With Joe and she was in foal to him when I saw her advertised.
“I got a filly from that mating and sent her back to Roll With Joe and she had this bloke.
“I sold him as a yearling, but approached the new owners to retain a share in him, which I’m glad I did.”
Earning a berth in next week’s Group One Final, Rolling Fire’s victory also provided trainer Justin Prentice with a clean sweep of the three heats!
