IT DIDN’T happen last night, but it will happen!
Dominating the Globe Derby meeting, Dani Hill went agonisingly close to making a clean sweep of the card.
Hill drove all but one winner for the evening – the third time this has happened.
On the two previous occasions Hill won five of six and six of seven races, with top reinsman Ken Rogers spoiling the party each time.
This time around Hill again won six of seven, with Gaita Pullicino capturing the other.
During her three near-misses Hill finished second in the ‘other’ race, suggesting a clean sweep will eventually come Hill’s way.
Then there was the time Hill had drives in seven of the eight races and won six – finishing second in the seventh behind her brother, Wayne!
“It would be amazing to drive the card, but when you win six races you’re not going to complain,” Hill said. “I had a terrific night.
“When you’re heading to the track and thinking about your drives, you’d take six wins any time and certainly wouldn’t be thinking of the other race or two you’re not going to win!”
Hill started her domination behind Overpowering in the opening event, with the son of Changeover rating 1:59.4 over 1800 metres.
The inspirational reinswoman then won the following four races with Celestial Daybreak, Moneymakinmonkey, Shelby Grace and Midnight Prowler.
Hill completed her fifth sextet when Aldebaran Diana led throughout in a snail-like 2:12.9 for the 2230-metre standing start trot.
Last May Hill claimed the Australian record for the most hauls of six having previously shared the mantle with Western Australian ace Gary Hall junior and Victorian champion, Kerryn Manning.
