ACHIEVING a personal best last weekend, prominent trainer Shane Loone hopes to replicate the feat at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
With four runners in the opening race on the card, Loone prepared the top three across the line.
Headed by Star Writer, with Jakes Sportwriter and Crookwell Jake filling the placings, it is the first time Loone has trained a trifecta.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result,” Loone said. “I’ve had runners finish first, second and fourth, but that was the first time I’ve trained a trifecta.
“I gave them all a good chance, but actually thought Jakes Sportwriter was the best hope among them.”
Loone’s trio will clash again – this time in the final event – with the horseman tipping a different finishing order.
Although Star Writer has fared best again in barrier two, Loone is “leaning towards” Jakes Sportwriter, which once again begin from gate six.
With Wayne Hill to partner the son of Sportswriter, Loone expects Jakes Sportwriter to dash to the front and be too good over the short trip.
“He led last week and was just found wanting over 2230 metres,” Loone said. “I can see him dashing straight to the front again and this time being too good over 1800 metres.
“The three are in great condition and I can’t see any reason why they can’t fill the trifecta again.”
