ALONG with his domination of the Golden Nursery heats, Ryan Hryhorec had another reason to soak in the glory at Globe Derby Saturday night.
Hryhorec had four runners in the two Alabar-sponsored qualifiers, with his quartet filling the quinella in each heat.
Maintaining his undefeated status from three starts, Jamaican Rock’s success was also Hryhorec’s 800th win as a trainer.
In 2020 Hryhorec registered his 2000th victory as a driver.
“I couldn’t have asked for the heats to go any better than the way they turned out,” Hryhorec said. “I was more than happy with the four of them and have no doubt they will take a power of beating in next week’s Final.
“Getting my 800th win as a trainer also made for a big night.”
With Hryhorec holding the reins, Waitpinga Heritage led throughout the opening head to score by a head from Nicely Spoken, which was gallant after racing in the ‘death seat’.
Rupert Ross was nine metres away third.
Breaking his maiden at his fifth start – having been among the placings during his four previous outings – Waitpinga Heritage rated 1:59.7 over 1800 metres, with his time 2.7 seconds slower than Jamaican Rock.
Also driven by Hryhorec, the son of A Rocknroll Dance raced greenly but was still too good for Hes All Torque and Lethal Louie.
“I will drive him regardless of the draw in the Final,” Hryhorec said. “He’s got the most talent, but as he showed again last night, he can be a bit of a rat and is not easy to drive.
“They are all Southern Cross eligible and figured I would stick with him all the way through.
“The plan with the four of them is to find one driver to stick with them all the way, so they get to know the horses well rather than jumping from one to another.”
