IMMEDIATE plans remain uncertain with Grand Circuit prospect Boots Electric.
Speaking after Boots Electric’s victory in the South Australia Cup during the weekend, Anthony Butt – who co-trains his team with Sonya Smith – stated the pair are yet to decide a path with the four-year-old.
While Queensland’s Winter Carnival is an option, Butt stated Boots Electric is likely to bypass the northern trip in preference for the majors closer to home later in the year.
“We hadn’t looked past the Cup with him, so I’m not certain what we’ll do next with him,” Butt said.
“He has done a terrific job this time in and would benefit from a spell, so that could be the way we go.
“There are some nice in Queensland during the winter, but we’ll likely give that a miss to give him a spell and concentrate on the racing in spring.”
With Butt in the cart, Boots Electric worked forward from barrier six to find the lead as early pacemaker Joes A Character was eased to take a trail.
Striding clear of the pack along the back straight, the son of Somebeachsomewhere was never seriously challenged on his way to an eight-metre win from his game stablemate Perfect Stride.
Majestic Cruiser completed a Victorian trifecta when a head away third.
Rating a slick 1:57.2 over 2645 metres, Boots Electric was only four-tenths of a second outside Smolda’s track record set in the 2017 Cup.
“It was a terrific run from him,” Butt said. “He felt great the whole way and I was particularly happy with the way he hit the line.”
Owned by Emilio and Mary Rosati, Boots Electric took his record to 10 wins and four placings from 20 starts for earnings of $161,672.
