A RETURN trip home is yet to be decided for high class filly Encipher.
Although trained by Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart, Encipher was bred and is owned by South Australian Tyson Linke.
As such the daughter of Captaintreacherous has made three journeys to Globe Derby where she is unbeaten from five starts.
Encipher’s ‘local’ wins include the Group One The Allwood, Southern Cross Final and SA Oaks.
With Encipher’s Southern Cross title defence scheduled for December, Stewart stated discussions relating to an interstate trek will wait until after the youngster attempts to retain her Breeders’ Crown throne in November.
“The Breeders’ Crown is next, so we’ll just focus on that,” Stewart said. “Tyson enjoys having her over there when possible, but no plans have been discussed yet.
“First we’ll get through the Crown, and all being well as it was last year, she may go to Adelaide.
“But for now we’ll just enjoy what she has done tonight.”
Stewart’s “enjoy” comment refers to Encipher’s Victoria Oaks triumph at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Driven by Kate Gath, the three-year-old worked to the lead from barrier four before completing a two-and-a-half metre win from her stablemate, Petillante, with Amore Vita seven metres away third.
Rating 1:56 over 2240 metres, Encipher broke an almost five-decade drought for South Australian-bred fillies in the Blue Riband.
Only two South Australians had previously graced the honour roll since the feature’s inception in 1952.
Bred by Enoch Murdoch, Kiwi Para was the ground breaker in 1953, followed by the Robert Bansemer-bred Radiant Destiny in 1975!
“If ever there was going to be another South Australian filly win it, Encipher is it,” Stewart said. “She has proven herself to be a very special filly.”
