Feeling Aces claimed the $11,000 Williams Harness Racing Club Williams Cup at just his third start for his new connections, after being purchased just a few weeks ago. The $1.32 favourite lined up from barrier one over the 2666m trip in the feature, and with driver Shannon Suvaljko confident he could lead and win, the six-year-old skipped away for a 14m victory for his new owners.
“Shannon was confident he could lead and win, the danger was on his back and didn’t want to kick away too early.” Scott said.
After seeing the horse advertised in late January, Scott jumped at the opportunity to purchase him with his ability in the stands as well as recent form at Busselton appealing to the Serpentine based trainer.
“He’s an honest horse, can lead or sit back and kick home,”
“He was recently purchased into the stable and one of the owners is Kasey Green, and ex Eagles and North Melbourne player, it’s his first pacer.”
Scott expects Feeling Aces to race this Saturday at Northam, before hopefully setting him towards the Bridgetown Cup on April 2. Scott took out last years Williams Cup with his small but mighty pacer Awaitinginstructions.
The Suvaljko family were in fine form on Sunday, with the family driving six of the seven winners on the day. Shannon Suvaljko drove a treble on the card, with the Peter Tilbrook trained Cavalry Call kicking off celebrations in the first. The 235-start veteran started as the $2.35 favourite over the 2277m trip, and after leading all the way, brought up his 19th career win, making it two in a row for the 10-year-old.
It may have taken 30 starts for The Running Camel to break through for his first win, but it took him no time to notch up his second, with the four-year-old making it two in a row when he sat in the breeze over the 2277m to take out race two for mother and son duo, Sarah and Joseph Suvaljko.
Team Teal ambassador Emily Suvaljko drove a double on the day, with Sunnie Beach bringing up her first win in almost three years. The six-year-old made her way to the stables of Tracy Reay in late 2022 and has been racing in consistent place form before taking out the $8000 RWWA Westbred feature on Sunday for the fillies and mares.
Suvaljko didn’t have long to wait for her double, with Trunkey Fetch taking out race four, the RWWA Westbred feature for the entires, colts and geldings. Trained by Tommy Sheehy, the double westbred four-year-old brought up his second career win, the first for new connections since purchasing the gelding just four starts ago. Suvaljko and Trunkey Fetch were able to lead all the way from barrier two, spacing the field by an impressive 29.8m at $5 odds.
It was a training double for Peter Tilbrook, with Caruba taking out race six, giving Shannon Suvaljko the final instalment of his driving treble. The seven-year-old worked her way to the lead, with favourite punters rewarded with the win in the penultimate event, bringing up the seasoned mares 17th career win from 132 starts.
Aiden De Campo spoiled the Suvaljko party on track after taking out the last on the card with his runner No Noney after leading all the way from barrier one. The three-year-old broke through for his maiden win over the 2277m trip after a last start placing at Pinjarra just six days prior.
The Williams Harness Racing Club has wrapped up for another season, with two meetings allocated to the club each year, they will be back next year for their 2024 season.
