Kadina trainer-driver Leah Harvey believes there are more wins to come for Sir Regal Delight, an easy winner at Port Pirie last Friday night.
“If I can get him right, I reckon he might just be a nice horse,” Harvey said.
“When he came to me from Perth and trainer Bob Mellsop, I was told he had ability but had issues which were preventing him from displaying his potential.”
Harvey took over the training of Sir Regal Delight in late October and capped improvement with the five-year-old with an 11-metre victory at Port Pirie in the Hopkins Saddlery Pace (2050m).
The gelding, a $2.60 equal favourite, pushed through from gate one to lead throughout and sprint away in the home straight to defeat Antaeus Blue Chip ($2.60 equal favourite) with another Kadina-trained pacer Little Foo ($5.60) an eye-catching third, seven metres away.
Harvey said Sir Regal Delight had a club foot which made shoeing very difficult but she was continuing to work on that problem and believed she was starting to get on top of the issue.
Also, the gelding tended to strike himself during races and she was also adjusting his gear to get him pace truly.
“To add to those problems, he is also very highly strung but I think in our environment he is starting to calm down.”
Sir Regal Delight is owned by a group of friends who have tasted success at the highest level in Australia with the champion Smoken Up which was trained and driven by former South Australian Lance Justice who now resides in Victoria.
